What is PADI?

The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) is the SCUBA diving association that certifies you.  It is the most widely recognized and respected diving organization in the world.  I am a PADI certified SCUBA Instructor.  For more information please visit the PADI website.  The FAQ section has some really good info.

Open Water Diver Course

Begin your underwater adventure with the Open Water Diver Course.  The course is divided into two phases: Confined Water Training (CWT) and Open Water Training (OWT).  You need to take both phases to graduate as an Open Water Diver.

Phase 1 CWT

CWT is composed of diving theory and pool instruction.  You will learn the basics on diving theory/physics and all the SCUBA skills.  It runs for 4-5 nights (5-9pm on average). Each night you dive in the pool and practice some theory.

Home Study

The instructor led theory sessions are optional.  You can choose to study and do the homework at home on your own time.  This will reduce the amount of time you have to spend at the shop during CWT.  I am always available via email for questions.

Phase 2 OWT

At OWT you apply all your CWT knowledge in a real open water environment (lake or ocean).  OWT is given over a weekend.  You have to complete 4 dives – 2 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.  You will practice all your CWT skills, plus enjoy some real world diving!!

OWT Dive Locations

There are two choices for the open water dives: fresh water or salt water.  The salt water dives are conducted in Rhode Island or Connecticut.  The fresh water dives are conducted in Dutch Springs, Pennsylvania (SCUBA Camping trip. Click here for more information).  The students decide where the dives will be conducted.

Referral Program

PADI offers the flexibility of taking the second phase of the program (OWT) at another worldwide location (Tahiti, Hawaii, Puerto Rico…).  You complete the CWT with me and its up to you where in the world you want to go diving to complete your OWT.

At the end of the course you’ll be a certified SCUBA Diver with the capability to rent SCUBA gear and dive anywhere in the world.

CWT – $299.95, OWT - $149.95

All text books, dive-log, diving tables, PADI student application fees and the rental of all technical SCUBA diving equipment (Regulators, Tanks, weights and the Buoyancy Control Device (BDC)).  It does not include the mask, snorkel or fins (which are required to take the course).  These can be purchased at the shop if you desire.  We have special deals and discounts for students.
